TDF Makes Theater Accessible

Did you know that the Theatre Development Fund has a special program for individuals with special needs? TAP (Theater Accessibility Program) offers discounted orchestra seats to people who are hard of hearing or deaf, partially sighted or blind, who require aisle seating for medical reasons, or who use wheelchairs or can’t climb stairs.

To access this program, you must become a TAP member (which is free but involves providing documentation of your disability). For those with hearing loss, each month you’ll receive a mailing with a listing of the performances that will offer open captioning or sign language; most theaters routinely offer assistive listening devices at every performance, you just have to ask! TAP will allow you to purchase up to 8 tickets at the same discount so you can attend and sit together with friends and family.

To become a member, email tap@tdf.org., call 212-912-9770 (TTY 212-719-4537), or download the application at www.tdf.org/tap. This is a great opportunity to enjoy NYC theater and you’re bound to meet friends and acquaintances at the performances.
