Amy Reiss, J.D., M.A., a Hearing Education Specialist and the Program Lead for the Usher Syndrome Family Center, is dedicated to empowering children with Usher syndrome to develop the foundation needed to lead independent, engaged, and fulfilling lives. Her coordinated interdisciplinary approach emphasizes the early recognition of functional changes and the implementation of practical, individualized strategies that support independence and long-term success. Areas of focus include sensory awareness, auditory cues, reference systems, organizational skills, contrast enhancement, communication, orientation and mobility readiness, assistive technology, lighting optimization, and self-advocacy.

Following a career as an attorney, Amy pivoted to obtain an M.A. from Teachers College, Columbia University, in Education of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing, and is currently enrolled in Hunter College’s Vision Rehabilitation Therapy/Orientation and Mobility programs to support individuals who are deafblind and those living with progressive vision loss.

Amy is focused on equipping children and their families with the knowledge, strategies, and support needed to navigate challenges, embrace opportunities, and become all they are capable of being.
