CHC-Florida’s MOST (Maximizing Out of School Time) Summer Program will be expanding this year to include speech and language instruction for participating students. We are excited to welcome Elena Ugas, Speech-Language Pathologist, who will work closely with campers and staff to incorporate communication-building strategies throughout the program’s daily activities and interactions.

Camp for Deaf and HOH Ages 5-12

Funded by the Children’s Services Council of Broward, MOST provides year-round services for children ages 5–12 who are deaf or hard of hearing. The program offers a visually engaging, active, and enriching environment featuring activities focused on art and culture, music, science, and community service, while supporting academic achievement, social and physical development, and strong connections with peers, families, and the broader community. Community service projects also include multi-generational activities with seniors at a nearby assisted living facility.

This summer, by adding speech and language support to CHC's camp for Deaf and Hard of Hearing children, we will be further strengthening opportunities for children to build language, literacy, listening, and social communication skills in a fun, engaging, and language-rich environment. Speech and language instruction will be integrated into classroom enrichment, peer interactions, recreational activities, and other camp experiences, helping students strengthen communication skills in meaningful everyday settings. Support may also include areas such as vocabulary development, reading comprehension, grammar, phonics, and understanding the connections between ASL and English to support bilingual communication skills.

We are grateful to The Frederick A. DeLuca Foundation for helping make this expansion possible.
