Catching up with Matthew Ricker
Like many alumni from CHC’s children’s program, Matthew Ricker stays connected to CHC through fundraising events. In recent years, Matthew has played a proactive role in helping to raise funds for our Golf event and Winter Appeal. Most recently, he leveraged the fundraising power of Facebook – along with the generosity and support of his family and friends – to make a donation to CHC in connection with his birthday.
We caught up with Matthew, now an accomplished employee benefits expert, for a quick Q&A about his Facebook fundraiser.
CHC: What inspired you to create a Facebook fundraising campaign?
Matthew: I received communication therapy at CHC for several years as a child after getting a cochlear implant. That experience made a big difference in my life, and I’m grateful.
CHC: What was the reaction from friends and family?
Matthew: Lots of people donated, and it was comforting to receive so much support, personally and for CHC.
CHC: Any advice for others looking to do their own fundraiser?
Matthew: Anyone can fundraise on Facebook, even if it’s not a birthday fundraiser. What I did was explain my history with CHC and how they benefited me. That is what helped me to raise a lot of money.
CHC: Can you share with us what you’ve been up to since graduating from Iona College?
Matthew: I graduated from Iona College in May, 2018. For my senior year in college, I interned at Fox News. I currently serve as the Employee Benefits Clerk for the City School District of New Rochelle. I worked there on a part-time basis while I was in high school and college, and then was recently promoted to that position. I also host a radio show on New Rochelle’s local station, WVOX.
CHC: Matthew, your friends at CHC wish you continued success! We’re grateful for all your support and look forward to working together on our next fundraising venture!
