ELIZABETH YING REJOINS CENTER FOR HEARING AND COMMUNICATION AS CO-DIRECTOR OF SPEECH & HEARING SERVICES

NEW YORK/April 15, 2015 – The Center for Hearing and Communication (CHC) announces that, effective April 15, speech-language pathologist Elizabeth A. Ying will rejoin CHC as Co-Director of the Shelley and Steven Einhorn Audiology and Communication Centers in New York. Ying, who has a 40-year career of providing aural habilitation and rehabilitation services for children and adults with varying degrees of hearing loss, will share responsibility for the leadership of CHC’s acclaimed speech and hearing services with audiologist Ellen Lafargue.

Elizabeth Ying – cochlear implant therapy pioneer

Early in her career, Elizabeth Ying, MA, CCC-SLP, was a member of CHC’s clinical staff where she began her pioneering work in auditory-based oral speech and language therapy for recipients of cochlear implants. She later served as clinical supervisor of the DeVault Otologic Research Laboratory at Indiana School of Medicine, gathering data for NIH-funded research investigations of the benefits of cochlear implantation within the pediatric population. Most recently Ying has been pursuing her clinical and research interests as Director of Hearing Habilitation at the Ear Institute at New York Eye and Ear Infirmary of Mount Sinai Health Systems.

“We’re thrilled to have Liz back at CHC where her skills in optimizing auditory access and working with families will be invaluable to our clients of all ages,” says Executive Director, Laurie Hanin, PhD., CCC-A. “The vision and leadership she brings as Co-Director of the Shelley and Steven Einhorn Audiology and Communication Centers will strengthen our multidisciplinary approach to hearing healthcare and raise the standards of our clinical outcomes.”

Elizabeth Ying and Ellen Lafargue lead skilled team

Elizabeth Ying, together with Dr. Lafargue, will lead a clinical staff of 12 audiologists and speech-language pathologists widely regarded as the best in their field for their use of cutting edge diagnostic tools and innovative therapeutic techniques in their work with people of all ages with hearing loss and listening and auditory challenges. CHC’s renowned pediatric program is the first in the Northeast to acquire HearLab, advanced technology used by CHC audiologists to verify the benefit babies and young children are receiving from their hearing aids and better manage their care.

Since 1910, CHC has been New York’s leading hearing healthcare center for infants, children and adults with all degrees of hearing loss. With offices in New York City and Florida, CHC meets consumers’ hearing and communication needs through professional services that offer the highest level of clinical expertise and technical know-how available in the hearing healthcare field. In addition to providing hearing evaluations, speech and language therapy, hearing aid services, tinnitus therapy, and  psychotherapy, CHC is highly regarded for its children’s auditory-oral program for infants and children who are deaf and hard of hearing.
