Helmet Safety Tips for Back-to-School Sports
By Michele DiStefano

With fall upon us and the days shortening, school and organized sports have begun. Like all children, those who wear hearing aids and cochlear implants love participating in sports with friends. The need to protect their hearing equipment and reduce the impact on these devices shouldn’t keep your child on the sidelines.
Here are some tips for finding the proper helmet and protective gear for your child:
Choose a helmet that is appropriate for the activity.
Find a helmet that fits over your child’s devices comfortably.
Consider using a sweatband or bandana under the helmet to absorb moisture.
Check how the helmet is adjusted and the fitting system.
Consider adding additional padding or foam.
Always talk with your child’s audiologist about the sport’s needs. They can help with everything from helmet fit to hearing aid accessories that ease communication with their coach!
