President Jeffrey Cohen, 2014 Annual Meeting

Center for Hearing and Communication (CHC) board president, Jeffrey M. Cohen, reflected on his six years of leadership at CHC’s 104th Annual Meeting December 2, 2014 in New York.

Jeff Cohen is a dad with two grown-up children who are graduates of CHC’s children’s program. He spoke warmly and with humor about his many years of involvement with CHC as a client, a board member, and board president–one who can claim more than a few remarkable achievements during his two terms.

With Jeff’s second term coming to a close, we welcome Barry Felder as the next president of the Center for Hearing and Communication board of directors.

“You, the collective you who are the staff of this agency, and who deliver the most compassionate care related to hearing loss that I can imagine, you taught our deaf twins to hear and to speak. Years later it turns out that you also taught our kids lots of indirect life lessons too about coping, compensating, sharing, and enjoying life. For all of this Shari and I will be forever grateful.

“The most powerful boards achieve by doing, and this board gets a lot of stuff done. A few highlights that leap to mind over the last several years include changing our name, raising over a million dollars as we celebrated our 100 year heritage, expanding our clinical offerings, contracting our real estate footprint, altering our fiscal year calendar, and confronting a myriad of other issues. How was all of this possible? The secret is to have a talented, generous, and diverse board that represents an array of abilities and experiences, finance, law, insurance, marketing, real estate, and of course hearing and health care too, and much more.

“I have enjoyed…the camaraderie of some great people, colleagues who I am proud to count as some of my closest friends as we have faced obstacles and morphed and strengthened this agency as it sets forth on its second century of service.

On behalf of CHC’s staff, thank you, Jeff, for your incredible talent, heart, wisdom and enthusiasm. We would agree: you made a lot of great stuff happen!
