With the TCS New York City Marathon just days away (November 2), we’re shining a light on one of our incredible Team CHC runners Amanda Milevoi—a dedicated speech-language pathologist here at the Center for Hearing and Communication (CHC).

Balancing early morning training runs with her busy schedule supporting children and families at CHC, Amanda embodies the spirit of perseverance and purpose.

In this brief Q&A, she shares how marathon training has shaped her perspective, why she’s running in support of CHC’s mission, and what motivates her to keep going—mile after mile.

CHC: How’s your NYC Marathon training going?

Amanda: Marathon training has been equal parts challenging and rewarding. When I started back in July, my longest run was just 8 milesand that alone felt like a huge feat! The thought of tackling 26.2 felt almost impossible.

Fast forward to nowless than a week from race dayand I can honestly say that all the early mornings, long runs, and quiet weekends have paid off. Just last week, I ran 8 miles during my taper and caught myself thinking, “Only 8 miles? Easy.” It’s incredible how much your mind and body can adapt with consistency, commitment, and a clear goal in sight.

CHC: Your work as an SLP changes lives, and now you’re running to help even more people. What does that mean to you?

Amanda: Running the New York City Marathon for CHC means the world to me. As a speech-language pathologist at CHC, I see every day how transformative our services are for the individuals and families we support. This marathon is more than just a personal challengeit’s a chance to give back to an organization whose mission I deeply believe in.

Fundraising for CHC allows me to amplify that impact by raising both awareness and essential funds to continue this life-changing work. Knowing exactly who and what I’m running for makes every mile more meaningful and every step more empowering.

CHC: Do you have a favorite CHC moment or memory?

Amanda: I treasure so many moments at CHC. From meeting new families and assuring them that their baby will live a full and joyful life with hearing loss, to watching parents grow in confidence as they become experts in their child’s listening and spoken language developmentevery step feels meaningful. But what I love most is watching my clients grow and make progress each week. Seeing them thrive and knowing I played a small part in their journey is incredibly rewarding.

CHC: Do you see any connection between your work as an SLP and marathon training?

Amanda: Absolutely. Just as I remind my clients and their families that progress doesn’t happen overnight, the same holds true for marathon training. Both require patience, consistency, and the support of a strong community. Over time, those small, steady efforts lead to amazing growthwhether it’s saying your first words or crossing the finish line.

CHC: What would you say to someone chasing a big goal, whether in therapy, running, or life?

Amanda: Anything is possible with determination, perseverance, and the right support system. Stay patient, trust the process, and celebrate every small win along the way!
