Dear CHC Kids and Parents,
Labor Day is here, and that means school is about to begin. Thinking back to those exciting days, I can’t help but remember all of the prep that went into getting ready for a new year—picking the right binders and folders (do you guys still get paper worksheets?), the right clothes, and thinking about the best way to tell the stories of my summer.Â
Getting ready is a lot of work! As a kid with two hearing aids, I also had to get ready for training a whole new set of teachers to teach a kid with hearing loss, and potentially a whole new group of kids as well. I can’t say that I handled it with grace every single year, sometimes I had more patience for the same questions and the same explanations than other years. One thing I can say, looking back, and as a parent myself now, is that you have, absolutely without a doubt, got this. If there’s one thing I know about CHC kids, it’s that you have an incredible ability to advocate for yourself.Â
As you get ready for school, remember that everything is fixable when you have the right tools, and YOU have the right tools! You are strong, tenacious, brave, and prepared and you have the best team in the world by your side. Lean on your parents, on your support team, and on the friends you trust to get what you need and it will work out. If something isn’t working, keep your head up and stay with it until you get what you need. Your school year is wide open for the taking, and I know you’re going to make it amazing.Â
Wishing you a wonderful year!
